In Home Specialist

Essential Duties 

  1. Provides therapeutic, behavioral skill-building services to children, young adults, and families. Assists in managing the behavior of clients through the use of approved behavioral management techniques/interventions. Available to respond to urgent and crisis situations.
  2. Under the direct supervision of TSH Supervisor and in collaboration with DCFS co-located staff, staff will conduct intakes and orientations to newly admitted children on a 24-hour 7 day a week basis.
  3. Plans, implements, and facilitates the constructive use of leisure time through therapeutic activities in coordination with families.
  4. Maintain regular weekly communication/consultation with DCFS staff and client's team in order to stay updated on client treatment, needs, and care coordination opportunities.
  5. Prepares, maintains, and submits all documentation and reports promptly, maintains confidentiality in all matters of Agency personnel, operations, and clients.
  6. Participates in case supervision by coming prepared to discuss current clients, and program documentation; accepts constructive feedback and direction; and puts feedback into therapeutic practice with clients.
  7. Establishes and maintains rapport and effective working relationships with clients, families, and community; works effectively within the TSH position and community at large.
  8. Attends/participates in TSH meetings (Child and Family Team Meetings and team consultations when necessary) and attends/participates in client appointments with TSH team, clients, and families.
  9. Completes client risk assessments in accordance with TSH program trainings/protocols. Ensure immediate communication of client risks to TSH team, TSH supervisors, and DCFS.
  10. Maintains knowledge of program standards and policies as developed by Five Acres, COA, Community Care Licensing, and other governing bodies; develops personal and professional knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the art practices; participating in in-service programs.
  11. Maintains confidentiality over all information regarding clients, families, and operations of the Agency (including media).
  12. Incorporates Agency philosophy and mission in all aspects of job performance.
  13. Maintains a professional relationship with clients at all times.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus two (2) years of mental health experience (paid or unpaid). Bachelor's degree in a mental health related field, preferred. Must be 18 years or older.
  • Mental health experience includes experience providing services to children and/or adults to improve or restore social, vocational, economic, housing and/or mental functioning.
  • Must have a valid California Driver License, proof of automobile insurance, and meet the Agency's safe driver guidelines.
  • Availability of a personal car with appropriate insurance which employee is willing to use for all Agency business, if needed; adhering to federal motor vehicle safety standards when transporting children.
  • Working knowledge of the family patterns, child-rearing practices, special needs, traditions, and values of the ethnic and cultural groups served by the program.
  • Working knowledge of the methods involved in organizing recreation activities.
  • Ability to pass and utilize Pro-Act certification training.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment.
  • Computer skills sufficient to meet production demands of the job including Microsoft Office and WELLIGENT software for program notes.
  • Ability to work varied hours including evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Ability to maintain Pro-Act and First Aid/CPR certifications.

Compensation Range: $19.38/hr - $28.67/hr
