  • Permanency - Foster Care and Adoption - Five Acres believes children thrive and heal best within healthy, permanent families.  The pathway to permanency can include reunification with a birth parent, a relative or adoption by a foster-to-adopt family.  To help families on their journey, Five Acres provides two critical programs:
    • Adoptions and Adoption Promotion Support Services Five Acres strengthens existing families and works tireless to find loving, permanent families for children in need.  Our team supports families throughout the adoption process as well as during post-adoption
    • Foster Care and Intensive Treatment Foster Care for those who have a heart for children in foster care, Five Acres offers training and certification for transitional families and support for children awaiting reunification or adoption.

  • Community-Based Services - Five Acres' Community Based Services honors the importance of providing individualized mental health services to children, youth and their families.  Whatever the challenges may be, our team is here to help.
    • Therapeutic Behavioral Services - Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) is an intensive individualized, one-on-one, short-term intervention for youth up to age 21 who experience serious emotional/ behavioral challenges. TBS partners with youth and their caregivers, staff or others to learn new ways of reducing and managing challenges as well as strategies and skills to increase the kinds of behaviors that will assist the youth to be successful.
    • Mental Health Services - Our mental health services include a thorough assessment of your family's needs and the development of a treatment plan to meet those needs.

  • Community-Based Specialty Services - Five Acres’ Community Based Specialty (CBS) Division offers several specialty programs including Deaf Services, PCIT (Parent Child Interaction Therapy), Wraparound, Foster Family Program and services at Pasadena Mental Health Center. While our CBS staff are able to provide traditional mental health services, we also focus on providing specialized, preventative and early intervention services to keep children safely in the home, facilitate family reunification, prevent the need for out-of-home placements and improve the overall quality of life for the children and families we serve. CBS serves all ages, youth to adult.
  • Our Specialty Programs include:
    • Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) PCIT therapists teach parents the skills necessary to manage their child’s severe behavior problems. Parents are coached and practice specific skills during therapy until they master them and their children’s behavior improves.
    • Wraparound Team-based approach providing locally based community support systems to help children and their families continue to thrive
    • Deaf Services The only program of its kind in Los Angeles, Five Acres Deaf Services provides community-based counseling and mental health services to deaf individuals and their families.
    • Pasadena Mental Health Domestic Violence Support Group Offered as a service under the Pasadena Mental Health Center, our domestic violence support group program works with women and children who have been affected by emotional, physical, financial or sexual abuse. Services offered include support and empowerment groups, individual therapy and case management services to help families find support.
    • Foster Family Program Our foster family mental health programs provides mental health services specifically for children and families in foster care.  These services focus on strengthening families through permanency, safety, and well-being.

  • Residential Five Acres' Residential program provides intensive, temporary out-of-home care and therapeutic services for children and their families referred to Five Acres by the Department of Children and Family Services.
    • Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program - Every child should be raised by a loving family. However, when a child experiences acute trauma at home, living outside the home and within residential care is sometimes the best place to support children and families during the reunification process. Five Acres’ residential cottages provide a safe, supervised space to restore balance to an impacted child’s life.  The Residential Division strives daily to connect children who are lacking family connections to a loving home. Five Acres Short Term Residential Therapeutic Program is structured and staffed to serve children who have experienced an emotional disturbance and who cannot be served at home or in a suitable family setting.

  • Private Health Care - Five Acres partners with private health care organizations across Southern California to provide access to intensive services for children with the goal of maintaining them safely in their own home and community.  Through our care, we help lower the child's risk of psychiatric hospitalization and prevent the need for out-of-home congregate care placements.
Service Locations Headquartered in Altadena (Los Angeles County), the agency has additional offices in Pasadena and West Covina, California. Five Acres serves children and families throughout Los Angeles County.
